When you go ' WHAT THE **** !!! '

Weird things always happen in our lives. Have you ever had a hot-tempered teacher coming to your class and being very calm despite the noise your class makes or a bully coming & being nice to you? These kinds of things are really unusual & weird. Well, unusual things happen all the time they are either significant or insignificant. Those which are significant would usually stay in our hearts through our life. But the others which are insignificant are actually part & parcel in our daily lives. They just come & go. I am blogging about an unusual thing that happened in my life which just feels like yesterday.

I am an animal lover, especially hamsters. They are very cute & irresistible. I love to just hold them in my hand. actually have 4 hamsters which I have been having since I was 11. I got them when they were just small little babies. My cousin had given them to me when they were just born. I had taken care of them for at least two years, but they haven’t given birth despite the fact there were two male & two female hamsters.

But on day Annie, one of my female hamsters was behaving very weirdly. It was taking food and bringing it to a different place in the cage & setting it there. When I went to hold it in my hand, it ran away. It had also looked pretty fat for the last few days. I could not really understand what was happening. I thought that something wrong was happening as the other ones were behaving like usual. I decided to let one more day past & then see what was going to happen. I went to sleep thinking of what was going to happen that night.

The next morning I woke up & immediately went to the hamster cage to see what had happened. I could say that the moment when I realized that my hamster had given birth, I was filled with joy. When I searched about the unusual things my hamster and found out that it was what pregnant hamsters will do.

What a day I had!

Exams!Exams!Exams!

We all have problems. There is nobody in this world that can live life without any problems. Those who are poor have problems with earning money for a daily living; those who are rich have income tax problems and students have problems in studies. Well I, as a fourteen year old teenager, also have my problems.

Like all other teenagers my problem my age was obviously inadequate time for studies. I was very committed in cricket. But that wasn’t the problem. My CCA was over for the fourth term of the year with all my sub-tournaments were all over. I didn’t really go for complimentary tuition classes but, instead my father who has a master-degree in accountancy helps me tutors me, for no charge. So my father is also like my teacher. During August last year my grandfather had gone very ill. So my father went to India to see his father. But my grandfather recovered quickly. After two weeks or so my father returned back to Singapore. But that was just the start of the problem.

Just 4 days before my exams my grandfather had gone into a very serious condition. So my father went to India again to see him. This was the problem which I faced. I did not have my father by my side to guide through the pressure of my end of year exams. But this was a true test of my self- responsibility and self-discipline. The solution for this problem was my mindset. I had to stay confident and focused on my goal of doing well in my end of year exams on my own.

I strived for only one thing and that was to prove my self-responsibility. Well if you know I really did exceeding well in my exams and my father felt really proud for me. I would like to prove that the solution for most of our problems are the way we react to them

My Cricket Camp

During the March holidays last year we had a cricket camp in our school. It was three day- two night camp. This was a tradition carried out Victoria school of organising a cricket camp each year to invite the secondary one students into the CCA, prepare them for the Nationals tournament ahead and obviously enhance the team bondage. I was very excited for this camp.

On the first day we met at the school canteen at one in the afternoon. Then we brought our luggage to Class 1I on the second floor. We then had a short and brief speech about what we will be doing in this camp. After the briefing we then went to the gym for a work out. Then it was the harder part of the training. We went to the field and started with various drills which will help to improve our cricket skills. After a tiring training session we had a little bit of fun by playing a mini game between ourselves. After a fun period of games we were sent for hour dinner break where we had gone to marine parade for our dinner. When we returned we took a rest for a while and played another mini cricket game in the field. The game was very fun. This was one of the parts which I really enjoyed in the whole camp.

At night, at about nine o’clock we watched three movies back to back. They were ‘Transformers’, ‘Disturbia’ and ‘Holes’. We only went to sleep at one midnight. The next morning we woke up at nine brushed our teeth and went for a slight breakfast and went to the gym at 11 and then we were released for our lunch at about one in the afternoon. Them from 3.30 pm to 6 pm it was intensive training. This part of the training was nearly unbearable.
I could feel my heart pounding at my ribs after this training. After two hours of ‘torture’ training we were allowed to take a rest and play the Playstation3 (PS3) which my friend had brought from home. Fortunately this was the last training we were going to have this camp. Well, after playing the PS3, we went for our dinner and returned for the most anticipated event of the camp. It was none other than the ‘Night Walk’. We were made to watch this horror movie, ‘Shutter’. It was about a ghost haunting this man via a camera. The movie really freaked out all of us. Then at exactly midnight we were sent one by one to carry out different challenges where our seniors will scare us to our nerves. I was really scared in this ‘Night Walk’. But after a good night of sleep everything was back to normal.

The next day was supposedly the best part of the ‘Cricket Camp 09’. Our teacher-in-charge had booked a cricket pitch for us play against ourselves. This was where our training throughout the camp was put to the test, both in tactical and physical ways. We split ourselves equally into two groups and played a proper twenty-over match. I had played a big part for my team but we still lost. But in the end of the day we knew that we have done our best and it was just a practice match. We then returned to school and were dismissed home. We left for home with memories that we will never forget.

A trip to Kota Tinggi Waterfalls

During the school holidays last year, my parents had decided to go to Kota Tinggi Waterfalls, which is one of the naturally formed waterfalls in Malaysia. It is not really a well-known attraction as it is located in the more rural part of Malaysia. Nonetheless it still attracts the local people and Singaporeans. Well, my cousin had gone to the Kota Tinggi Waterfalls before. So, she had suggested that we go there.

We decided to travel there by car on a Saturday. Since our car is an off-peak car, we had to wake up at five in the morning to reach Johor Bahru by seven. Well as planned we had breakfast at a restaurant in Johor Bahru and had a drooling two hour drive to Kota Tinggi. In the drive I had seen brilliant scenery of the green plantations. I had even seen some of the plantations for which Malaysia is famous for, like the palm and rubber tree plantation.

When we reached there, it was not crowded at all. We first went to look at the upper waterfall. It was actually the major waterfall and the biggest one. It was out of bounce for swimming as the water was very deep and water was plunging down at a steep speed. It was really a fantastic sight to see.

We then headed down to the minor waterfalls to wet ourselves. This was the time that I had waited for. I quickly change to my swimming trunks. The water was really shallow and it was filled with a lot of rocks regardless whether they are big or small. Algae had grown on the rocks and they were very slippery. One time my father nearly slipped and fell on the hard rock, but fortunate for him a Malay gentleman had provide support and prevented my father from falling down.

After two hours of soaking myself in the crystal clear water, I went to the play pool. This pool was located further away from the waterfall so the water was a little muddy. There was tube slides located there. We were supposed to rent tubes for the slides. My brother and I had enjoyed ourselves in the play pool.

After the play pool we went for a short bath and were forced to leave as we were supposed to go back to Johor for a little bit of shopping. I feel the maintainers have allowed it to have a natural feel and have not touched on the waterfalls and fish living in the water. We left the Kota Tinggi with memories we will never forget and a promise to come back soon.

Cricket Tour

As a student of Victoria I must not only be good in my academics but also in sports. I have been cricket fan from my childhood and hence i choose cricket as my main CCA. Last year November school holidays our school had organized a Cricket tour to Kuala Lumpur & Penang. The main aim of this trip was to expose us to a higher standard of cricket and enhance our bondage as a team.

Our first d
ay of the tour was a day full of travel and settling in. We all assembled in school early in the morning. Since three CCAs were going the travel agent had booked two buses. One for soccer and the other for hockey and cricket. We then left for Kuala Lumpur in the buses which were allocated for us. It was a hurting 5 hour travel by bus. most of us were listening to music, playing cards or even sleep. Well i took the simple way of sleeping.

We had lunch at a restaurant on the way. At about 2 pm in the afternoon, we reached Concorde hotel, Shah Alam. We were then designated to our different rooms with three people in every room. Just like the first day the second day was also moving and settling in. We had a boring 7 hour bus drive to Penang. We had to gobble down our food at the hotel. but this time i didn't sleep. But i played 'titi', the card game, with my friends. Even our coach joined us. Well this was one of the best fun i had in the tour.

Finally after a long period we reached Penang at about 1.pm. immediately when we reached we had to go for our match leaving our luggage in the bus. Well this was an extremely fun match but in the end we won eventhough i did not bat.

We then went to our beach hotel. it was fantastic. But in fear of getting dirty we went to the swimming pool instead of the beach. we spent the rest of the evening wetting ourselves in the swimming pool and playing beach volleyball. At night we went to a shopping mall and ate dinner at Pastamania and played pools in the mall. then We returne and went to sleep at midnight.

There was another cricket match the next day. We played against the same team but this time we lost by a very close margin. We returned and played corridor cricket. It was a fun mini game which we made ourselves. We went to sleep at night thinking about the series decider the next day. We played the last game of our tour against Penang Free Schools. This was an extremely close game but in the end we clinched the victory by just three runs. What a match! Our coach was very happy with our performance.

After dinner we watched a movie and then went to sleep with a sence of pride that we had done our school proud. The next day we left for Kuala Lumpur.

In the hotel at night we had watched the thrilling Liverpool match against Manchester City. Well it was a dissapointing two, two draw.

The next day morning we left with memories we would never forget for the rest of our lives.
